Report: Driver in Fatal Train Crash Was Texting

The driver of the Metrolink train that crashed last month and killed 25 received a text message about a minute before the fatal crash, and sent a text 22 seconds before running the red light and hitting a freight train.

According to the investigators’ report, driver Robert Sanchez, who was killed, sent or received 45 text messages during his morning shift, which lasted two hours and nine minutes.

Published reports say teen “railfans”–train enthusiasts who pepper conductors for train minutia–had been texting with Sanchez prior to the crash.
